The outlook seems to be a little bit brighter for Lennie Lawrence after witnessing his men coming from behind, twice, to take victory in the belated first leg of the second round of the Worthington Cup last Tuesday.

A new hero emerged from the beleaguered ranks of the Grimsby armada. Jonathan Rowan, an 18-year-old who is indigenous to the Grimsby area, got off the substitutes bench to make his mark after just five minutes into his debut as he headed home from Kevin Donovan's 81st minute cross. Seconds later ex-super sub Bradley Allen sped past Neil Emblen after a long ball forward from goalkeeper Danny Coyne and planted the ball in the back of the Wanderers net.
On the night their were some good individual performances which brought back distant memories and the belief that things could be looking up. Hopefully the Mariners have found their shooting feet at last and their efforts will produce bountiful goals during the league game on Saturday. Onwards and upwards...

Barnsley have had mixed results but commenced the season reasonably well with three wins, four loses and one draw placing them in the lower half of Division One.
The Tykes return to league action at Oakwell after Bruce Dyer's last minute equalising goal, at Crewe Alexandra, capped a fine comeback for the Yorkshire outfit when they had trailed by two goals with less then 10 minutes left. Dyer, who had looked useful, grabbed a worthwhile away point for his side when he volleyed home a fine left-wing cross from Mitch Ward.
Alexandra's Australian goalkeeper Jason Kearton, who is usually consistent for the club, let them down when he toppled Dyer as Barnsley's bullying showed. Darren Barnard pulled one back from the spot with a valiant kick.
One of the misses of the season had come from Mike Sheron in the first half when the ex-QPR striker scuffed his shot with the goal begging to swallow the ball.
