The Keegan Debate

FRED:
I always said Keegan had no bottle after he jumped ship at Newcastle.

BERT:
Well I don't know. He's a basically honest guy and I just think he couldn't take the excessive rubbish the media threw at him. We don't know what's it's like when they camp on your doorstep and even harass your kids at school to get a story.

FRED:
Well his timing is pretty bad. We've an important game on Wednesday.

BERT:
That's not the issue. Keegan knows that Wednesdays team was pretty much selected anyway and apart from injuries would always be the same squad. He knew too that a new face might add a bit of inspiration so maybe it was good timing?

FRED:
He should have gone after the Euro debacle.

BERT:
So do you want Venables back then? He seems to be favourite.

FRED:
He's a myth. So we won a couple of games in open play in Euro 96 or whatever and got through to round two and won a penalty shoot out. It was hardly a fantastic record was it. what has he really done at say Palace apart from near bankrupt them?

BERT:
I fancy old man Robson myself.

FRED:
I wouldn't disagree there, but the Geordies won't let him go in a hurry. Young Robson is no good. He's done nothing big at Middlesboro despite having loads of cash.

BERT:
This Peter Taylor sounds good.

FRED:
Early success at Leicester could evaporate and seven games isn't enough to judge him. I liked what he did taking Gillingham up and what he did at under 21 level but he got kicked out of there by Wilkinson and I don't know why. I assume he isn't acceptable for some obscure political reason.

BERT:
What about Wilko? He took Leeds to the championship.

FRED:
Dunno. He's not done much with a very good English under 21 team and there's something about him I don't like. There's only one thing we CAN be sure of..

BERT:
Which is?

FRED:
The FA will pick the guy the fans dislike most!

BERT:
Well as long as it isn't a foreigner.

FRED:
Why not? are you racist?

BERT:
No. Just traditional. And how can you discuss tactics if you can't speak the language?

FRED:
Well Fergie does it at Man Utd.

BERT:
Oh yeah.. Anyway. I wonder what the fans think.
