Town boss Lennie Lawrence is spoilt for choice up front in tomorrow's game against Blackburn at Ewood Park. The Grimsby manager has to decide whether to pair either Steve Livingstone or Bradley Allen up front with the fans' new hero David Nielsen.
Lawrence transformed the team on Tuesday night against QPR, when his half-time gamble to play three up front in the second half came up trumps, with the Mariners turning around a 1-0 deficit in the second 45 minutes, to triumph 3-1 in front of an ecstatic home crowd.
Assistant manager John Cockerill, now helping Lennie Lawrence with the first team, summed the situation up today: "It won't be three up front but what system we don't know yet. One of the three strikers will be sub. All three of them have done well. A 4-3-3 works quite well at home but you can't go and do that at Ewood Park."
On-loan Stuart Campbell, who suffered from concussion and was substituted (by Livvo), on Tuesday, has received treatment at his club Leicester City, and joins the squad for tomorrow's game, to start his second month on loan at Blundell Park from the Foxes.
John McDermott and Paul Raven both return to the squad after injury problems. Alan Pouton is still struggling with a knee injury, and failed to make the squad in time.
Blackburn have injury worries of their own with winger Damien Duff (hamstring injury) and striker Nathan Blake (Achilles) both out.
Last season Town drew with Blackburn both home and away, the scorelines being 0-0 and 1-1 respectively. The Mariners have never won at Ewood Park, but there is a first time for everything!
Grimsby Town: Coyne, McDermott, Butterfield, Raven, Handyside, Groves, Gallimore, Donovan, Coldicott, Campbell, D Smith, Allen, Livingstone, Nielsen, Croudson, Clare, Jeffrey, Burnett.
