Council Vote

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 08/11/2000

North East Lincolnshire Council are set to review their previous decision to throw out the plans of Grimsby Town to build a new stadium at Great Coates. Six councillors have now agreed to sign the letter calling for the review, which could be held in the third week of November.

A number of councillors who voted "No" last time round will be voting "Yes" this time but it is still very tight and it is difficult at this time to estimate the outcome. Even if the council vote in favour, the plan will have to be submitted to the Secretary of State who will have the option of leaving it to the council, calling a public inquiry or making the decision himself. Over the last few weeks, there has been a call to fans and supporters to write to or talk to their local councillors to ask for their support of the stadium. It is now very important that as many fans as possible take the effort to do this as it seems that it will be a very close vote and Councillors need to see the measure of support for the proposal.
