Is football a business or a sport?

Batty Resigned to Leaving

New Zealand international goalkeeper Jason Batty is more or less resigned to the inevitability of not being offered a contract by the Mariners, and is looking to utilise the last four weeks of his loan spell in Cleethorpes to find another English club, where he could experience first team football.

Grimsby manager Lennie Lawrence has being trying to set up a loan deal for the 29 year old keeper, who has played for his country on no less than 43 occasions, of which six were as captain. New Zealand coach Ken Dugdale was over in the UK to watch Grimsby Town reserves 1-0 win away at Wrexham, a game in which Batty played.

Batty told the Evening Telegraph: "I've been fairly happy with how I've played. I haven't had the official word, but anything can happen in that four weeks. God forbid, somebody could get injured and four weeks is a long time. I'd like to stay in the First Division, but whatever I do, I need to be playing first team games."

The amazing story of how Jason came to arrive at Blundell Park was first revealed on The Fishy back in September.
