Clare Confusion

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 30/12/2000

Confusion reigns tonight as to the whereabouts of Grimsby Town striker Daryl Clare. Conflicting reports have suggested that Clare is currently on-loan at a Third Division club, although it is unclear as to whether that club is Lincoln City or Cheltenham Town.

A report in the Lincolnshire Echo suggested that Clare would be heading to Sincil Bank early next week, after suffering an 11th hour ankle injury during a Grimsby training session. 'The 22-year-old former Republic of Ireland under-21 international picked up a knock in training with Town after the two clubs had shaken hands on the month-long deal, but the Mariners have agreed to let Clare sign up next week to give him an extra seven days at Sincil Bank,' stated a report in Saturday evening's Sports Echo. Meanwhile, the story that Clare had joined Lincoln appeared to be confirmed further by RedImps.com - the official Lincoln City Football Club website. Reports on the official Grimsby Town website today, however, categorically state that the Irishman has joined Cheltenham Town in a one-month loan deal.
