Nielsen UK Return Claim

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 27/01/2001

Departing Grimsby Town striker David Nielsen is due to go back to FC Copenhagen on Monday, but has set his sites on making a quick return to English football, claiming to be holding talks with Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, and an unnamed Premiership side.

Nielsen in an interview with Danish site BT said: "The manager [Lennie Lawrence] has declared that he will not use me in any more matches, so it really suits me fine not to train any more". The 24 year old striker added: "On Monday I will go down to say farewell to my team-mates at Grimsby."

"On the other hand, I can claim that at least two of the clubs in the second best division are very keen to get me and all three mentioned clubs are good ones with visions," boasted the former Danish Under-21 international, who has been on loan at the Mariners since October, but failed to agree terms with Grimsby.

Nielsen alleges to have also received a request from an English Premiership side for his services, claiming, "There has been one request from a Premier League club and I hope that something comes of that since I would really like to play in the Premier League."
