Is football a business or a sport?

ALAN BUCKLEY has been appointed as the new manager of Lincoln City. The former Grimsby Town boss will be on a short-term basis until the end of the season, although he could stay if he manages to save the Imps from relegation.

Speaking exclusively to planetfootball.com Buckley said "Fortunately Sky have kept me quite busy in the last six months or so. All I have ever known is professional football and I can't wait to get out there with the players"

"This is a real good challenge to take me through until at least the end of the season," continued Buckley, who has been out of football since leaving The Mariners in August 2000.

"It's a similar situation to that when I arrived at Grimsby all those years ago and things didn't go so bad there." said Buckley, who still lives in the Grimsby area

City chairman Rob Bradley said "We're absolutely chuffed to have got Alan in so quickly."

In regard to players Buckley said "For now we'll have a look at what we've got, although I'm aware that transfer deadline day is approaching and if we need to strengthen the squad I'll have a word with the board then."

Speculation is growing among Grimsby fans that Buckley will be looking to the Mariners for players especially his son Adam and Paul Groves. John Cockerill who got on well with him has also been placed in the frame.

There is a long list of Town players who will be out of contract in the summer, and with Buckley's track record of signing players from his former clubs, some of them at least look likely to make the move to Sincil Bank to join up with their former manager.

One thing for certain is that Grimsby fans will be happy to see their "old boss" back in work again.
