Groves: Two Year Deal

GRIMSBY TOWN captain Paul Groves has signed a new contract with the Mariners making it likely that the club's influential skipper will finish his career at Blundell Park. Groves is the latest player to pledge his future to the club after left back Tony Gallimore signed a new contract on Tuesday.

The deal will mean Groves is guaranteed a testimonial at the club he has played over 350 games for, despite his eight years of service being sandwiched between an unsuccessful spell at West Brom under former Town boss Alan Buckley in the 1996-97 season .

The veteran midfielder turned central defender told the Grimsby Evening Telegraph that the fact he had only started playing professional football at a relatively late age had helped him keep up his fitness at a level where he could continue at one of the highest levels in the game until at least the age of 37, when his new two year deal expires. "I feel that anything at my age is a bonus, but I'm benefiting from the fact that I didn't come into the game until I was 22" said the Town skipper.
