Rotherham Rule Out Handyside Move

ROTHERHAM manager Ronnie Moore has ruled out a move for Grimsby Town central defender Peter Handyside, claiming the former Scottish Under-21 International is "too expensive". The 26-year-old Scot is free to leave the club as a Bosman when his contract expires in July.
Handyside has also been linked with a number of teams over the past few weeks including West Brom (a story that was denied by the West Midlands club last week), Dundee and Millwall. Grimsby boss Lennie Lawrence has offered the Dumfries-born defender, who has spent his entire career at Blundell Park, a two-year deal but must wait until July when the Scot has promised to reach a decision on where his future lies.
The First Division newcomers are desperate to strengthen their squad and have been reported as looking for a new centre-back for some time. In addition to Handyside a number of players including out-of-contract ex-Town QPR defender Ian Baraclough have been linked with the South Yorkshire outfit, but to date no new faces have arrived at Millmoor.
Former player Moore, who has just signed a contract extension with Rotherham after guiding the South Yorkshire side from the third division to the first in a remarkable couple of seasons, is under no illusions about the task facing the Millers just to stay in the league, recently telling Sky Sports: "If we're just going to go up and stay as we are, then we haven't got a cat in hell's chance of staying there. We have to get at least that one season where we can put the wedge in and stay there."
