Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 14/06/2001

This site is written by fans for fans and each week we interview a prominent "Cod Head" as part our commitment to fans of Grimsby Town FC. We regularly need new cod heads, so would appreciate contributions from lifelong supporters of the Mariners. This week's Cod Head is Ryan Collins.

Fishy:
When did you first start supporting the Mariners, and what was your first game?

Ryan:
I first started supporting the Mariners when I was 4. I went to see them against Wolves at Blundell Park - we lost 3-1 though.

Fishy:
Who is the best player you ever saw wearing a Grimsby Town shirt?

Ryan:
Although I was young when I used to see him, I have to say it's Ivano Bonetti if that's how ya spell his name [Ed - I corrected it!] He was top class and used to be able to just run at the defences from midfield.

Fishy:
If there is one game you were allowed to go back in time and watch what would it be and why?

Ryan:
Ehhhh well I can't remember what season it was I think 1933/1934 when Town lost in the semi finals of the F.A cup to Wolves.

Fishy:
What are your favourite and least favourite away grounds?

Ryan:
Well if you can call it a away ground my favourite is Wembley the atmosphere is brilliant. My least favourite away ground has to be Boothferry Park - it's quite scruffy (no offence).

Fishy:
What, in your opinion, are GTFC's best and worst seasons since you have been supporting them?

Ryan:
Well the worst season had to be 1996/1997 season and getting relegated. I was at that match and although we won 4-0 at the end of the game every I was sad. My best has to be 1997/1998 when we got the Wembley double that was just total class.

Fishy:
What is the most eventful day you have ever had in the course of following the Mariners?

Ryan:
The night when we beat Fulham at Blundell park to get to Wembley a second time the pitch invasion at the end was good.

Fishy:
Who is the greatest ever GTFC manager?

Ryan:
Well I've only seen a few but by far the best is Alan Buckley.

Fishy:
How many games a season do you get to now, and what do you do while Town are playing games that you can't get to?

Ryan:
I get to about 8-12 games and when I cant get to the matches I have teletext on all night.

Fishy:
Name your all-time starting eleven since you have been watching Town?

Ryan:
