Next England manager?

Buckley Refuses To Rule Out A Move For Groves!!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 18/06/2001

LINCOLN CITY manager, Alan Buckley refused today to rule out the possibility of making an offer for Grimsby Captain Paul Groves after it was revealed that Groves had a getout clause in his contract which stipulates that he is free to leave the club if he is offered a coaching or managerial position.

Buckley told www.planetfootball.com that he had read the report in the local press while he was on holiday on in Florida. Commenting on that report which also revealed details of the players' wages, Buckley said he was less than impressed: "I saw the article while I was away and I thought that it was disgusting to print the terms of his contract,"

Planetfootball reported: "Since Buckley's appointment at Sincil Bank he has been operating with a makeshift backroom staff comprising of experienced former players but appointing an assistant manager is one of his major summer priorities, although the former Grimsby chief remained evasive when pressed as to whether or not Groves would be filling the vacancy.

"I will do what I feel is right for the club, as I always will do," he stonewalled. "I will be doing all that I can to make Lincoln City as good a football club as it can afford to be."

"....I'll decide who comes to this football club, not Grimsby Town...."

Buckley also commented on the link between Lincoln City and Grimsby keeper Steve Croudson with Lennie Lawrence being quoted as saying: "A loan move would be good. He could do it there. The Third Division would be absolutely ideal and if they come in for him I would have to seriously consider it."

However, Buckley stated :"I'll decide who comes to this football club, not Grimsby Town."

"I've had no contact with Lennie Lawrence since he took over there. There's been no talk concerning Stevie Croudson whatsoever."
