Lawrence Eyes Openers

LENNIE LAWRENCE gave his opinion on the task that faces Grimsby during the oncoming season. The first game sees Town take on Crewe at home, followed by West Brom away, and then a home fixture in the Worthington Cup against arch rivals Lincoln City.

Talking to Mariners Net, Lawrence on opener against the Railwaymen said, "We didn't do very well against Crewe last year. After the opening 20 minutes I thought we would win 5-0. As it turned out we got Crewe's season going, they beat us and never looked back from then on. We have got to make sure we don't get their season going again."

"It will be hard. Dario does very, very well with the resources they've got. They have got some talented young players, very talented. They are all hard games in this league. You hope for a glamorous one on the opening day, but they were probably hoping for a glamorous one as well."

On the Lincoln game: "It's a local derby, so obviously there will be a lot of interest in it. The good thing is, in the early rounds of The Worthington Cup, sometimes there is no interest. It was also a good decision to make it one leg instead of two."

Lennie added: "Obviously because it's Alan (Buckley), and Kingsley will be there, and there's a bit of connection between the two clubs with the local rivalry; it will be more interesting than the average first round Worthington Cup game - to say the very least."
