GRIMSBY TOWN keeper Danny Coyne said today that he was pledging his future to the Mariners and will possibly be signing a two year extension to his contract. His current contract is only for a further 12 months and he could go free next summer.
Talking to the Grimsby Telegraph today he said: "I'm speaking to the manager today and there's talk of hopefully getting it finalised. I've got to go in today to speak to him, as long as both parties come to an agreement I'll be happy to sign as soon as possible."
Coyne praised manager Lawrence saying, "I think on a personal note he's been brilliant for me. He came in as manager and just told me to go and play and that was it, he hasn't tried to tell me how to be a keeper and he totally understands the game. He's well up-to-date with things like diet and nutrition. The lads have been totally enjoying it."
"It's been totally different to what most of us have ever done before. For myself and the keepers, we've just had a specialised week of goalkeeper training and it's been the best pre-season I've ever had."
"This year it's been something different and the lads have responded to that. Everyone's in good spirits. I think it's been really good. We've just been working fully on building up to a match situation and all the training's been linked to that."
"We're looking forward to the week in Sweden and we've had the training now, we just need games and match fitness. We're looking forward to that first game and the preparation has been good."
Alan Pouton is also reported as negotiating an extension to his contract which expects to be finalised after the squad return home from Scandinavia.
In other news, Mariners Net reports that striker Bradley Allen has got through the fitness training without a problem. Previously thought to need surgery it is believed that the therapy programme he has been on has been successful. These are early days yet but the news is encouraging.
Grimsby Town have announced the release of two players today. Manager Lennie Lawrence appears to be reducing the wage bill by releasing players he does not feel will play a part in the Mariner's future. Presently trialing a number of players and seeking season loans, Lawrence sees these players are surplus to requirements. Click Here For Full Story
