Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

THE FRIENDLY MATCH at Ishøj stadium between the Mariners and Køge revealed the Dane's big squad - and the Køge coach Henrik Jensen must have many doubts whom he should use when the Danish season kicks off again.

Køge soon managed to put pressure on Grimsby. After only two minutes Tommy Olsen was put through by Martin Borre but he didn't manage to score. Also Martin Borre, Tommy Olsen and Morten Hansen failed to capitalise from promising situations.

It was first one minute before the half time whistle when Køge finally scored. The former Dulwich Hamlet player Morten Hansen was the last man to touch the ball before it headed goalwards to put the Dane's 1-0 up.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Køge continuing to place Grimsby under pressure. Both teams were in a fighting mood and after 75 minutes it became to much for two players. Bradley Allen and Koge's Tommy Olsen were "asked to leave the field" by referee Peter Feigh following an altercation.

Three minutes before the end the Mariners got a penalty after Morten Eskensen made a foul inside the box. Alan Pouton placed the spot kick beyond Holbek in the Køge goal to make the score 1-1, which is how it ended.

Køge looked solid against the Mariners and Lennie Lawrence should have been pleased to grab a point. Køge coach Søren Unger felt an injustice had been done, telling the Danish press: "We should have won by at least two goals. We created a lot of chances that we should have scored from.

"Morten Hansen had two good chances that hit the bar, Jesper Sommer almost managed to get past the Grimsby keeper, while Carsten Schrøder missed on a great chance alone in front of goal and Claus Jørgensen had a header saved off the line. Yes, we had enough chances".

Grimsby Town: Coyne, McDermott, Raven, Groves, Gallimore, Butterfield, Burnett (Coldicott), Willems, Campbell (Allen 45), Rowan (Jeffrey), Jevons.
