Daryl Clare How can you describe our Daryl? He was an excellent prospect, but not (quite) to be. After emerging in the 1997/98 promotion season, everyone was ranting and raving about how Town had pulled out yet another great talent. The signs looked good, and at one stage it was rumoured that Leeds wanted to sign him for £500,000.

Clare represented Eire at U21 level, but then his career got stuck into neutral for two or three seasons, never looking as if he was going to improve. He was a very 'hussle and bussle' striker but could not finish to save his life! His final bow came in the 2000-2001 season when he missed numerous chances including an open goal at home to Tranmere. Lennie Lawrence was so mad that he substituted him at half time, and predictably that was Clare's last Town game and inevitably he was released.
