The match, at Radcliffe Borough’s Stainton Park ground, saw the Mariners' team dominate from start to end. Chris Thompson, who was a constant menace to the Shakers, hit the cross bar on five minutes. Michael Boulding and Iain Ward also went close for Grimsby in a first half which ended goalless, although the Mariners did everything but score .

Town opened the scoring with a rare goal from a corner at the start of the second half, when Michael Boulding superbly spun and volleyed the ball direct from the spot kick to put Town 1-0 up.

On the 90 minute mark Shakers defender Steve Halford pulled down Mansaram in the penalty box and the ref awarded a spot kick which Graham Hockless duly dispatched. Deep into injury time Iain Ward wrapped things up for the Mariners with a long range shot.
