St Blundell Parish Newsletter: Church News

GREETINGS to you all, and welcome to the St Blundell Parish Newsletter! First of all, I must apologise for the shortage of newsletters in these parts.
For some of you...in fact all of you (because I never wrote anything), you have never heard anything from me since way back in July! But I assure you that this newsletter will be worth waiting for, because we have just so much to catch up on!
Firstly, I would like to give my heartiest congratulations to Mr Lennie Lawrence and his chaps who have recently come back from a highly successful conference trip to Liverpool. I am sure everyone in the community will agree that the way they are spreading St Blundell Parish's name across the map with their organisation of Christian Fellowship events across the United Kingdom is highly commendable and worthwhile to Christians across the globe.
Obviously, not every fellowship conference the group set up is not going to be a roaring success and attract thousands of members, so expectations should not rise too high. But of course, when gatherings like the Liverpool conference turn out to be so successful, everyone deserves a good old pat on the back and should look forward to our next venture in a big City like London or Manchester. However, as Mr Lawrence will say, the local prayer meetings and other community events are the priority.
However, I hate to tell you that the Parishes financial position is still very much in a precarious state. I have tried to increase the value of the Parish by selling lots of the Church's annual raffle tickets. However, these are selling very slowly and there are very few raffle ticket holders in the village -so buy them and help the Church, for only 50p each! (see Mr Ramsden for details) However, to try and ease the pressure heaped on the sales of these tickets, Mr Tim Harvey has come up with an absolutely splendid idea of raising substantial amounts of capital for the church, but I will leave it to him to tell you more!
Unfortunately, the plans for the proposed relocation of the Parish church have not moved any further forward. I regret to inform you that we are STILL waiting for government planning permission to give us the final nod for building to start. Obviously this is a major frustration for not only yourselves, but myself too. I am determined that we will get a church built in Mr Coates' field whether he likes it or not! The only plus side of this whole shenanigan is that the sheep on Mr Coates's field, who had previously been bleating in protest of the new church, have been tested for foot and mouth disease, and they have it! I am sure you will agree this is excellent news as it quite frankly stops them from protesting against our very worthwhile capaign . The bad news on this though, is that Mr Coates is getting a new flock in December. Lets hope that they will be more peaceful than the last bunch!
On a quick personal note, I would like to thank the wives of the men on the Parish Council who provide us with such wonderful cakes and scones every time we have a meeting. Mrs Fleming's mince pies are an absolute treat, although I'm not sure about Mrs Ramsden's gravy and marmite surprise! She says in her own defence that it all goes down the same way, but the mixture does not blend at all, and I am just not convinced by them. After all, she charges 25p for each pie! I asked for a refund, but she refused because I had eaten it. However once I threw it all up again later that afternoon, I did get my 25p back, and a very good job too!
Anyway, I better go now, because Mrs Furneaux is taking me out to celebrate my 97th Birthday at the Mariners Kitchen.
Yours in Christ
Peter
