Boxing Day Set For Livvo's Return

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 05/12/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE is looking to get Steve Livingstone back in action for the Boxing Day battle with Coventry City. Lawrence is awaiting a doctors report on Livvo and if it is positive, he will get the green light to up his training tempo.

Making his return against Scunthorpe in the reserves game next week will be his first test and if he comes through that, his target date for a return to the first team will be Boxing Day

Talking To Stuart Rowson of the Grimsby Telegraph Lennie said: "If he gets the nod on Thursday we will step it up. He will get a half-a-game in the Reserves next week, the last one of the year, at Scunthorpe, and he must do some running and up the tempo, but he could be back for Christmas."

"If we get the all-clear, and it's only an if, his target will to be back in the squad for Boxing Day. Him sitting on that bench against Coventry would be a nice Christmas present. I'm hopeful it will happen, but that's all."

"He's training and he's okay but we haven't turned the tap on yet. You can plod around training and get through some things at your own pace. But soon he needs to up it."

Livingstone has been back in training for three weeks but has not played a game and it is understood he will need surgery on his calves at some point in the future. His problem is poor circulation to his calf muscles during exercise, and he could need an operation relieve the problem.
