Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

No Stopping Now!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 06/03/2002

PAUL GROVES has told the squad, "No stopping now" as they meet Gillingham tonight. A win could take Town out of the first division drop zone but Groves warns "Football has a habit of turning around and kicking you in the face and we can't let it happen."

"We go on the back of a good result and we have to be looking for the same sort of performance. We'll be going for the same again. The big factor is that we're getting a lot of games in a short space of time and, while you're winning, you bounce from one to the other" he told the Grimsby Telegraph.

"That's a good feeling and we have to maintain that at Gillingham."

"On Saturday everything dropped right for us and the finishing was excellent. It's nice to go and score that amount of goals when everybody knows that they haven't come easy for us. "But we kept believing and that's been the biggest factor. We knew we could score a few goals. If we can maintain that and boost our goals scored, it will go a long way to helping us. Touch wood, we've been able to keep things tight at the back."

Stuart Campbell talking about the Gills game at Blundell Park in September which we lost 2-1 said, "That game seems like four years ago and they beat us quite convincingly. We owe them one for that. "The atmosphere in the dressing room is good and everybody is determined to turn it around. The win on Saturday has given everybody, players and fans, a big lift."

Grimsby Town: Coyne, McDermott, D Smith, Groves, Todd, Pouton, Butterfield, Burnett, Coldicott, Campbell, Boulding, Allen, Croudson, Rowan, Jevons, Ford, Chapman, Jeffrey, Raven.
