AT Blundell Park today a press conference was held to announce Conoco as the major sponsor of the new stadium.

Present were Tom Mueller, the Director and General Manager of the Conoco Humber Refinery, Peter Furneaux, Chairman of Grimsby Town FC, and Paul Groves, the Club's Team Manager.

The Club's Official Statement

Peter Furneaux said, "It is with a huge amount of pride and a great deal of enthusiasm that Grimsby Town Football Club announce CONOCO as the official sponsor of their new stadium.

The CONOCO STADIUM brings together the club and a global corporation in a unique partnership, ensuring a bright future for Grimsby Town and demonstrating Conoco's continued commitment to the local community.

Today is a proud day in the history of Grimsby Town.

The club has been overwhelmed by the support of its fans during the planning application process. Subject to the completion of a legal agreement with the Council, the club now has the green light to proceed with the new stadium project.

With the full co-operation of Conoco, we are delighted to make this announcement prior to the Mariners' biggest game for many seasons. It clearly demonstrates Conoco's support for the club and we hope it will lift the fans even further to back the team at such a vital stage of the campaign.

Blundell Park has been home to some truly memorable moments with the fans central to those 'never to be forgotten' occasions. Today's announcement is a huge boost allowing the club to prepare in earnest for relocation to THE CONOCO STADIUM."

Tom Mueller said, "It is my very great pleasure on behalf of Conoco to pledge our support to Grimsby Town Football Club by sponsoring their new home to be known as The Conoco Stadium. We are very proud to be associated with the Mariners in assisting not only in creating their new home but also in helping to ensure a proud future for Grimsby Town and its loyal supporters.

Many of the refinery employees, including myself, are very enthusiastic Grimsby Town supporters and we will all look forward to that day in the not too distant future when the Mariners step out to play their first match at The Conoco Stadium. We hope by making this announcement just before the Club's most important match of the season, we will give the team that extra boost to secure those three vital points. The Conoco Stadium will feature the JET Family Stand. Jet, as you probably know, is Conoco's fuel brand in the UK.

Conoco's presence on the South Humber Bank stretches back 30 years to the commissioning of the new Humber Refinery and will help fuel dreams for the Mariners future success.
