Dr Fishy's Player Of The Year: Countdown
By: Dr Fishy
Date: 27/04/2002
NOW that the season is over and I have no players to report on, I've spent a lot of my free time devising a 'top 20' chart to show who have been the better performers over the season as a whole.
As I don't have a life and get my kicks out of being nasty to the players (not all of the time, may I add), I have drawn up some statistics to help analyse each player's season respectively.
There have been more than 20 players performing for Grimsby Town over the season, but several have not made it into the final 20 because they have not played in enough games.
Those players are Alan Nielson, Paul Raven, Chris Thompson, Robert Taylor, Martin Pringle, David Smith, Willie Falconer, Paul Robinson and Terry Cooke. Players who have just made it are Andy Todd and Michael Jeffrey.
Croudson, Livingstone and Ward have only been graded once by myself, and it would have been unfair to include them at all.
I'm not a mathematician personally speaking, I specialise in giving players a good spanking if they haven't played very well through my report after most games. However, I have used what knowledge I have of maths to give players an average grade for the season.
Each grade, from A to F, was given a value, and players' grades were added up as points and divided by how many games they had featured in. This equates to a mark out of ten, which was transferred back into a grade.
The mark out of ten plays a part in the positioning of players in the chart. For instance, 7.7 out of ten might equal C+ but so would 8.4 as they both round up to 8 overall (to one decimal place).
Therefore if there are several players with an average grade of C+ then they will be sorted in relation to who got the highest mark out of ten. If that is equal, then the amount of games they played is the final dividing factor.
With it?
I shall also be informing you of each player's highest and lowest grade for the season (only one player got an F, which meant he should have been shot but unfortunately I did not have the authority to perform that act).
As well as all this, I shall also be displaying a player's best and worst run of the season - best shows how many consecutive games that player went without getting a D. Worst shows how many consecutive games that player went without getting a B.
And that's about it. There will be two players featured each week, working up from the worst to the best. There are a few surprises in the list, but you will just have to keep checking the web site to find out who they are.
The first Season Report will feature those players who did not make the final 20 because of a lack of games between them. They have been sorted in order but their overall marks are fairly irrelevant. So don't go reading too much into them.
Of course, if you have more time on your hands than I do, you can go and find out who is the Dr Fishy Player of the Year, but I will warn you that a) it will spoil all the fun, and b) you wouldn't want to cross me when I'm angry, as the players of GTFC will testify!!!
