Sharpe Arrives On Trial

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/07/2002

FORMER Manchester United midfielder Lee Sharpe has arrived at Blundell Park on trial with a view to negotiating a permanent move to Grimsby Town. The 31-year-old was part of the mass release of players by Bradford City after going into administration this summer.

The stumbling block will inevitably be cash, but after the news that Town director Fenty has sold almost all of his 50,000 shareholding to fellow director Mike Rouse, with the proceeds going to Paul Groves for new players, Grimsby now have a limited budget to bring in some new squad members.

Tresor Luntala Paul Groves told Mariners Net: "Lee has agreed to come and train with us and we are always interested in bringing in quality players. There is nothing definite at all at the moment, but we'll have a look at him and see what the situation is. He may play some part in our match against Hull City tomorrow evening."

  • Paul Groves is reported to have released former Birmingham City midfielder Tresor Luntala (left) after the French trialist failed to secure a contract at Blundell Park, despite going on the club's Scandinavian tour.
