Farewell Paul Raven!

PAUL Raven has departed from Blundell Park and according to the club, the parting of the ways was 'mutual', whereas those with more knowledge of the workings within football clubs would tell you there is no such word.

Unlike the Leeds United's chairman, Peter Furneaux did not need a bodyguard when announcing the news, but Dale Ladson and Kirky were lurking in the shadows in case the news caused an outbreak of rioting amongst the four youngsters riding their skate boards in the club car park.

It would be true to say the news has not raised many eyebrows, which is a pity, as it is always sad to see a player leaving without having a club to move to, although it is rumoured that Rotherham and Doncaster are interested in signing him.

If so, good luck to him. The pity of it is, that due to injuries Raven never had the opportunity to really show his worth with Town and if he can keep off the treatment table, he may prove to be an asset to another club.

As it was clear that a new offer would not be made to him at the end of the season, the club appear to have paid out the remaining part of his contract to enable him to find another club.

Farewell Paul Raven and Good Luck for the future.

Tony Butcher on his Fishy player Profile said of the former Baggie:

Paul Raven: Rarely fit, barely played, the forgotten man. Without pace, but a big heart. Unpopular because he was signed by Mr Alan Buckley. One bad game in two years ain't that bad.
