LOAN midfielder Richard Hughes is to stay at Blundell Park for the remainder of the season, while Paul Groves is to hold talks with Mick McCarhty with regards John Oster.

23-year-old Hughes has impressed during his spell at Blundell Park, more so since playing in his natural central role.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp agreed to the Scottish Under 21 cap staying with the Mariners for the next eight games.

Redknapp has Paul Merson, Steve Stone, Tim Sherwood, Nigel Quashie, Gary O'Neill and Lassina Diabate for selection in midfield. That coupled with the fact that his team are all but promoted, the chance for Hughes to get more first team football was a good one.

Player-manager Paul Groves told Mariners Net: "When we spoke to Richard he said he's enjoyed it here and we've certainly enjoyed having him here".

Groves also revealed that he will have talks about John Oster's future with new Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy.
