A Gypsy's Warning! - Or Is It All Porkies?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 21/06/2003

PETER Furneaux warned today that Danny Coyne may not be a first choice selection next season if he fails in his bid to leave Blundell Park saying : "We only want players whose heart is in the club."

The Grimsby Telegraph report quotes Furneaux as saying: "It has been reported that he may look to his future away from GTFC. This is something he is doing, it has not come from us".

"We have not tried to get rid of him. He is under contract and we are paying him right through the summer at the rate he got in Division One and we will continue to pay him while he talks to other clubs".

"We have to look after our own interests. Should he not get a new club, it may be he will not be an automatic choice in every game". END

It seems likely that pressure is being put on Coyne to find another club. His cost to Town is high and despite the statements that 'we are not pushing him out', the club have placed him on the free transfer list, which is a good enough sign to me..

Coyne wants to get away. It is just a case of finding someone who wants him and at what price. He will not be looking to take on the sort of wages Town are currently offering no matter who makes the offer.

So unless a better offer is made from either a first division or premier league club, we can expect to see him serving out his contract at Blundell Park, and despite the chairman's warning, if he is the best we have got, he will play. So I cannot see the point of the statement except to try convince everyone that the club are not forcing him out.

I doubt if they will convince anyone - but who cares? Coyne wants to go, they want him to go, everyone therefore should be happy!

Or is that too simple?
