'Top Guns' Town To Jet Out To Plymouth!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 05/08/2003

GRIMSBY Town have chartered their own jet plane to get them to and from Plymouth on Saturday which Paul Groves is hoping that it will help to get them off to a real flier.

The Town squad will fly to Exeter from Humberside Airport on an Eastern Airways 29-seater - whose chairman is former Town vice-chairman Bryan Huxford - before completing the last 40 miles of the journey by coach.

Grovers told the Grimsby Telegraph "When you take into account the amount of time we'd be on the bus and what that takes out of the players then it's got to be a good thing for us. It sends out a message that we mean business and we want to do things as professionally as we can."

"It helps us to prepare better and cuts down the travelling time significantly. It gives us the best possible chance to get off to a good start. If you're looking at spending eight hours on a coach one way, and then eight hours getting back up, and then expecting to play on the Tuesday in the Cup then it would be very difficult."

"There's no guarantee it will give us a good start but it will give us the best possible chance. here's a difference financially between flying and travelling by coach and paying for a hotel, but it isn't a great difference. That's certainly been helped by the sponsors."

The club reduced the costs by selling eight seats on the plane.
