The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

August Player of the Month

By: Tony Hamilton
Date: 07/09/2003

AFTER a busy summer in the transfer market Grimsby Town have rebuilt a squad they think are capable of gaining promotion back to Division One. Historically when Town have been in the Second Division, they have either gone back up or been relegated to the lowest division within one season.

After a bumper set of votes this month here’s the six players you can vote for in August’s Player of the Month. Once a month the Question of the Week will enable you to vote for the Player of the Month and here are this month's candidates.

Stuart Campbell
Stuart Campbell Former Scottish Under-21 international who this season has had to play some games in central midfield due to Town’s shortage in this position, but plays better on the right side of midfield. Stuart Campbell Profile
Tony Crane
Tony Crane Town's first summer signing from the Owls and at 21 (on Monday) has the youth to stay at Grimsby for at least the length of the three year contract he’s signed - a versatile player who can even play as a centre forward if he’s needed. Tony Crane Profile
Darren Barnard
Darren Barnard A current Wales international and has made the left back spot his own after the summer departure of Tony Gallimore. The former Tyke will retire from international football if he makes the Wales Squad for the European Championship. Darren Barnard Profile
Marcel Cas
Marcel Cas An exile from Dutch football who has played for Notts County, Sheffield Utd and even had a big bid from Oldham turned down for him at one of his former clubs. The Dutch wide midfielder has been missed when he was suspended after being sent off against Doncaster. Marcel Cas Profile
Iain Anderson
Iain Anderson He signed from Preston after spending a few unsuccessful months in French football and will be an asset on Town's left side of midfield. Anderson is out injured at the moment with a cartilage problem and will be sorely missed. Iain Anderson Profile
Michael Boulding
Michael Boulding Has scored five goals already this season and will find the Second Division defences to his liking. The former Villa striker might score even more goals if a suitable partner is brought in by Grimsby Town to link up with him. Michael Boulding Profile
