The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Next England manager?

Jevons Can Play!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 30/10/2003

Grimsby Town striker Phil Jevons has answered the question of whether he is allowed to play for Town or if the Everton deal prevents him. It is obvious now from his comments today that he is allowed to play if selected.

He told the Grimsby Telegraph: "I am coming back stronger and getting fitter all the time. "Hopefully I can just keep pushing for a place in the first team. Ultimately it is up to the manager - all I can do is keep playing well. At the end of the day it's the manager's decision and I respect that. I'm just going to get my head down, work hard and be patient."

Jevons was man of the match against Scunthorpe yesterday with a hat trick that must have impressed Groves.

"I think my second goal took a couple of deflections and was a bit fortunate, but I'm pleased with how it went. We were a bit sloppy in the first half and let them back into it, but we kept on pressing and got the result we wanted."

Many of Jevons' supporters are calling for him to be played before Manseram and on this showing alone there is some merit in the demand.
