"No disrespect to the likes of Grimsby..."

Cleethorpes Away

From Gilbert the Filbert

When a team is either relegated from the Premiership or promoted into it, it is an often used cliché to say something dreadful about playing Grimsby. True there is no glamour in playing them when you could be playing at Old Trafford but one should never be too superior to mingle with the likes of Grimsby, nevertheless it is often said in words of dread.

Of course the first thing to remember when watching your team play against Grimsby is that they don’t play in Grimsby but in Cleethorpes which is of course far more glamorous. If Leicester had to relocate to Nottingham we’d be proud to be called Nottingham City………wouldn’t we ???????? For those of us going to the match look at the directions below, this is how you get there:

Take the M180 to the A180 following signs for Grimsby/Cleethorpes, at the end of the A180 you meet a roundabout take the second exit over the railway flyover into Cleethorpes Road A1098, continue into Grimsby Road, after the second stretch of dual carriageway you will find the ground on your left hand side.

The next thing to remember when you park up is don’t go into the ground before you’ve sampled some of the local fish and chips, there’s a shop right across the ground……and as I recall they are fantastic……go on spoil yourself and wash it down with a pint of Mariners Ale.

So having go there, parked up and feasted like a king you are now ready to go into their ground. Which as you can see from the chart below will not be packed out, in fact your presence will be welcomed, the crowd at Cleethorpes is as sparse as the numbers of cod in the North Sea. Fishing is their claim to fame. Why didn’t they call themselves Cleethorpes Town when they relocated?

Now you will be ready to study the form guide which is far more entertaining than looking round at their sorry little stadium.

Sky Deal

From Blind, Stupid and Desperate

The Sky deal for the First Division was hailed as some sort of triumph - in truth, it won't make the slightest bit of difference to the gap between the Premiership and the First Division. It'll possibly balance a few books for the likes of Grimsby but nothing more. It certainly won't help those lower down the divisions to survive.

Champions League

From Gooners Diary

Nevertheless it is the prospect of the media's blanket coverage of Man Utd's customary progress and the reams of sanctimonious rubbish in the red-top rags, as they revel in the Arsenal's almost annual failure to live up to expectations, which I cannot countenance. By contrast, I would be vaguely pleased with Celtic and Liverpool's continued involvement, as looks fairly likely. Although my joy would be jaundiced by the tortuous thought of their tantalising midweek fixtures, in places like Turin, if we are left with the Worthless Cup, humbly entertaining the likes of Grimsby at Highbury.
