Boulding Transfer Confusion

By: Tony Hamilton
Date: 23/01/2004

TONIGHT there is confusion about Michael Boulding’s move to Barnsley, as the Tykes have allegedly agreed a fee with Grimsby Town - although this has been categorically denied by Peter Furneaux.

The Town chairman also revealed that the clubs have exchanged faxes with Grimsby Town stating that Barnsley cannot talk to Michael Boulding and even hinted that Barnsley might have tapped him up as well - this being an FA charge if true.

All this was brought out into the open after Peter Furneaux was interviewed by BBC Radio Humberside for its Friday night sports programme

Boulding has a clause in his contract which says that Town can let him go for a small fee to another club in a higher league. However, with Barnsley being in Division Two along with Town, the clause does not apply in their case.

With speculation about other clubs signing Town's top scorer continuing on almost a daily basis, it seems only a matter of time before Grimsby cash in on Boulding, who is available on a Bosman in the summer.
