Rodger's Keeper Quest

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/02/2004

GRAHAM Rodger is still trying to bring in a goalkeeping replacement for the suspended Aidan Davison in time for Saturday's clash with Barnsley at Blundell Park.

The Town caretaker manager told Mariners Net: "We are trying to get a goalkeeper in before Saturday. If we don't get one in, Andrew Pettinger will come in."

19-year-old Pettinger has yet to play a League game, either with the Mariners, or with either of his former teams Scunthorpe and Everton.

Meanwhile Mike Edwards will definitely be available for the game with the Tykes, after confirming today that his suspension for the red card against Oldham was just one match. Whether Edwards will replace Craig Armstrong at centre back, after a strong performance from the Wednesday defender on Tuesday night against Luton, depends to a large extent on the injury situation in Town's depleted squad.

Rodger will also have to take into account the rule that only four loans can be on the field at any one time - but five can be named in the squad of 16. Town currently have four loan players - Isaiah Rankin, Lee Thorpe, Nicky Daws and Craig Armstrong, with a new 'keeper bringing the total up to five.
