Slade's Willem II Verdict

TOWN boss Russell Slade singled out his midfield pairing of Thomas Pinault and Terry Fleming as the highlight of last night's 1-1 draw with Dutch outfit Willem II. In what was the best performance of the pre-season to date, Slade is hoping his team are beginning to gel in time for the big KO.

Slade told the Grimsby Telegraph: "It was a good work-out, and a very different type of game from Friday night against Scunthorpe. We worked hard and perhaps should have scored a second before we gifted them with their goal.

"I though Pinault was outstanding in midfield. Provided we can get him on the ball, he is going to be a good player. Terry Fleming was up and down all game and showed a great work ethic.

"I think he is now the standard that the others have to get to in terms of work-rate. Jason Crowe gave a much-improved performance, and Simon Ramsden didn't do a lot wrong either."

"I have been seeing a steady improvement, and that is what I want to maintain."

The Town boss is still hoping to sign a target man and another central defender before the first game of the season against Darlington on August 7th.
