African on Trial

LEFT-sided Cambridge midfielder Kingsley Mbome has arrived at Blundell Park for a trial. The Cameroon U-21 international is expected to get a reserve-team run-out against Lincoln. However fellow target, striker Richard Pacquette, has opted to join a Conference club ahead of the Mariners.

Mbome (23), who spent six months at Celtic and two years on the books of Sheffield United, is a tall left-footed midfielder, who was spotted playing in France by Cambridge, but has struggled to command a regular first team place at the struggling League Two side. The versatile 6'4" African can also play at left back or in central defence.

Meanwhile Russell Slade had been hoping to give a trial to former QPR striker Richard Pacquette, but the 22-year-old has elected to join a Conference club instead.

"He's probably signing for a Conference club", the Town boss told Radio Humberside. "It was only a trial thing. We couldn't offer anything permanent at this stage".

Ronnie Bull (suspended), Jason Crowe, Justin Whittle and Glen Downey (all ankle) and John McDermott (knee) are all currently out of action for the Mariners, meaning Grimsby are keen to strengthen their squad.
