Danny Coyne | 1999/00-2002/03 | 201 (0) | 0 goals |
Goalkeeper who joined Town on a free from Tranmere in 1999. Persistently failed to catch crosses in his first season. In his second season, Lennie Lawrence sent him to special goalkeeping training in Barnsley. An excellent shot stopper, Coyne's best game for the Mariners was against QPR in 2001: a string of superb saves helped Town scrape to an unlikely 1-0 victory. The Telegraph even gave him an unprecendented 10/10 rating. His constant pursuit for a place in the Wales squad suffered during a game against Blacburn in 2001. He allowed a David Dunn shot to slip through his hands as Rovers romped to a 4-1 win, and ultimately promotion. Mark Hughes (Wales' manager at the time) was just yards from the incident.
