Greg Young

Greg Young signed a professional contract at the start of the 2001/2002 season with Sheffield Wednesday, the club where he was brought up through the ranks.

After 1 year at Hillsborough and nowhere near ever making an impact, he was released and joined Grimsby after a successful trial period. Greg was left to concentrate on reserve football with Town and made 1 appearance that year, when the majority of the first team were given a rest following the club's relegation before the end of the season. Newcomers such as Graham Hockless, Jake Sagare and Young all made their professional debuts against Reading.

The following season we saw a bit more of Young, filling in a lot for Darren Barnard. Young looked impressive and one for the future after making 19 appearances in the 03/04 season.

Russell Slade had other ideas for the new season and it did not involve Greg; he only made the team 8 times and was farmed out on loan to Northwich Victoria, before being "let go" to Halifax Town on a free transfer in March.
