Crane: Could Return?

Rushden Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 28/08/2005

GRIMSBY will be looking for their first home win of the season against unbeaten Rushden after two successive victories on their travels. Russell Slade will have to decide whether to return to his favoured 3-4-1-1 formation, or stick with the 4-4-1-1 formation which has won the last two games.

It is not yet known when Paul Bolland's suspension for his sending off at Barnet will commence. Bolland is likely to receive a one match ban as he was the recipient of two yellow cards during the win at Underhill, but it could be delayed until next weekend due to the Bank Holiday.

Assuming Bolland is playing, the only other likely change is the return of Tony Crane following his two match suspension for the former Owl's sending off against Darlington.

Gary Croft was only fit enough to start on the bench against Barnet, but could feature in the Rushden game. The versatile defender could either play in central midfield if Bolland is suspended, at left back (in the 4-4-2 system) in place of Simon Ramsden, or on the left side of midfield in place of Tom Newey, who has been booked in every game and sent off once.

On-loan Hatter Calvin Andrew will be pushing for a starting place after his winning goal on Saturday but is likely to have to settle for a place on the bench.

Toner and Cohen are both believed to be still injured.

Rushden skipper Dave Savage will be absent after limping out of Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Lincoln with a twisted ankle.

Grimsby (predicted 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1): Mildenhall, McDermott, Ramsden, Whittle, Rob Jones, Parkinson, Kamudimba, Bolland, Newey, Gary Jones, Reddy

Subs: Croft, Crane, Downey, Andrew, Gritton
