Savage Deal Not Possible - Slade

RUSSELL Slade said today that the demands of Bas Savage have ended any hope of signing him and he is now having a trial with another club.
"The terms and conditions that Bas requires are far in excess of our structure. Apparently he has since had a trial elsewhere."
But Slade has not ruled out Newcastle defender Kris Gates saying; "He is an interesting one. He played for Newcastle reserves on Monday and I think he's playing again for them tonight. He is a very reliable player for them and it was good to have a look at him."
Slade, although denoting his interest, did not reveal if Gate was interested in signing for the Mariners. His current wages even as a reserve or 3rd choice player at Newcastle could also prove to be too high for him to consider such a move.
