We Rolled Over!

Rochdale Game - The Inquest

ONCE again Town Manager Russell Slade has praised Michael Reddy for his contribution to the Mariners success so far this season. "Once we give Michael Reddy the right service, he is frightening," said Slade. "I was delighted that he got his goal, because he loves scoring.

"We may not have a striker on 13 or so goals, but what we have got is several players with five or six. We are about third in the table for goals scored, so it's not the worry that I thought it might be, not having that 25-goal-a-season man, provided they all keep chipping in."

"I asked the players to show more belief in the second half. And not many teams could have lived with the way we played after the break. It was important not to lose, but we got the three points, which keeps us in there in the top three, and that is great."

Steve Parkin, Rochdale's boss was unhappy about the way Rochdale caved in after the equaliser. "For 60 minutes against a good team I thought we were the better team. Their only real threat came from set plays, but the upsetting thing is that once we conceded the first goal our defence crumbled and it's unacceptable when for the majority of the season that hasn't been the case. We will concede goals, but you cannot roll over"

"We are playing the teams at the top and we aren't going to have things our own way all the time. We will concede goals, but you cannot roll over. You have to stay in the game, make sure you do things properly and come home with something."

"I was pleased with our goal and I think at the time we deserved it. We limited Grimsby to a few set plays and long-range shots in the first half, things you expect when you are playing away."

"We started the second half very well, but the goals we gave away were schoolboy errors. The way they broke through our attacking line to run on and score is unacceptable and something we need to talk about and work on before Saturday."
