Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

The Opposition View: Bury

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 22/12/2005

TOWN head to a rejuvenated Bury on Boxing Day to see if they can topple a team who have conquererd both Wycombe and Leyton Orient in their previous two games.

Nathan TysonYou've had some good results recently. Are Bury more or less safe from relegation now?

I think we are looking to get promotion. The poor results are the start of the season were down to poor managment from our last manager Graham Barrow. Now CC [Chris Casper, left] is on board we are flying.

Were the Orient and Wycombe results deserved, or was there an element of luck?

Not at all. Comments from both the Orient and Wycombe fans can back that up. We should have beaten Orient by more to be honest and we spanked Wycombe in the 2nd half.

In which area are Bury strongest: defence, midfield or attack?

That's a hard one but at this moment in time I would say midfield as we have a lot of talent in the middle of the park.

What sort of formation/tactics can we expect?

I can see us playing 442 but CC may tinker.

Which players are currently injured or suspended?

Strikers Allan Smart, Jon Newby and Matthew Tipton are all long-term injured players. Midfielder and last season's Player of the Year Dwayne Mattis is out and defender Lee Unsworth looks unlikely to feature also due to injury. Full Back Tom Kennedy missed the Wycombe game due to injury but is due to return.

What players should we look out for?

David FlitcroftOn loan forward Danny Reet will always cause a problem. Leading goalscorer Simon Whaley, who if you listen to the papers could be playing his last home game for the Shakers before a January move to PNE,Everton,Birmingham or Sheff Wednesday. The heart of the team is David Flitcroft (left) who more or less single handedly turned the game round against Wycombe.

Which of the teams you've played so far his impressed the most?

Wycombe at their place did and Orient at ours, but we have beaten them in the last 2 games

Santa grants you a win over the Xmas/New Year period. Which game do you pick?

It has to be the Dale on the 28th. We can't have them beating us!

What is your proudest memory as a Bury fan?

Loads to choose from but winning the Division 2 title with Stan Ternent will stick in my mind forever.

What's your funniest chant?

63 with a Phd Colin Woodthorpe Colin Woodthorpe or
Whoa whoa whoa he's a Whaley

Finally, a scoreline prediction?

2-1 to Grimsby

Thanks to Bury fan Damo of www.y3kshakers.net for the interview.
