Bloomer Joins on Loan

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/01/2006

LINCOLN defender Matt Bloomer is reported to have signed for the Mariners on a month's loan. The 27-year-old left Blundell Park in 2001 and eventually settled at Sincil Bank, where he is currently on the fringes of the first team.

Town's defence is currently decimated, with Simon Ramsden, Gary Croft, Justin Whittle and Rob Jones all rated doubtful at best to feature in tomorrow's game against Carlisle at Blundell Park. Ramsden is likely to be sidelined for several weeks. Bloomer is expected to make an immediate debut, and Saturday's hero Glen Downey is also likely to feature in a makeshift defence against the Cumbrians.

The versatile defender, who was born in Grimsby, can play at right back, in central defence, and originally began his footballing career in Town's Youth Team as a striker. Bloomer's last appearance ironically was also at Blundell Park, when he came on as a substitute for Lincoln during Wednesday's 3-0 drubbing of the Imps by Grimsby.

Following the Carlisle game the Mariners are fortunate to have a 12 day break until their next game against Mansfield at Blundell Park, which is the first of a quartet of games over 11 days, the other three of which are away at Darlington, Torquay and Stockport. "
