Reddy: "Goal"

Darlington 0 Grimsby 0

Date: 17/01/2006

TOWN gained a point with a hard-working performance at Darlington this evening, but had the chances to beat their League Two bogey side, including a perfectly valid goal that was disallowed by an over-zealous referee.

Russell Slade made just one change to his starting line-up bringing in the experienced Gary Croft at right back in place of Grimbarian Matt Bloomer, on loan from Lincoln.

Town had several early chances and went on to dominate the first 45 minutes without managing to draw first blood. Michael Reddy was unfortunate to have a goal disallowed when the referee failed to play advantage, despite Town's leading marksman recovering from the challenge and going on to put the ball in the net.

The Mariners were unable to recapture their first half performance after the break, and a Rob Jones header which crashed off the top of the bar was the closest they came to scoring.

Junior Mendes came on as a substitute replacing Gary Cohen and looked promising, but Town's new signing Ben Futcher will miss the Torquay game on Saturday after picking up a late yellow card, his fifth of the season.

The draw means Town have considated their second position, and have now reached 50 points, their traditional target for the last few seasons. It was at this stage last year the Russell Slade was offered a new contract at Blundell Park.
