THE reports that Luton Town are interested in Michael Reddy are true in substance. Mike Newell is interested in him and it seems that if Luton have the sort of money Town are asking for him, it will happen.

Reddy, quite naturally, wants to talk to any club that is interested in him and one cannot blame him for that.

The question is; Will Town let him go? The club have stated many times this season that we do not NEED to sell anyone (first team players that is) but considering the financial situation, if a good offer is made why would they turn it down?

Mike Newell in the local Luton paper said; "We've spoken to Grimsby and we've got a good idea of the sort of offer they expect. There are still a few finer details to thrash out, but I'm confident he'll be here by Tuesday."

I cannot see Newell making a fool of himself in saying something that is not true. But "We've spoken to Grimsby " does not mean; "We have completed negotiations."

There have been quite a few managers this season who have "Spoken to Grimsby"

The Town board may well have said that they would let Reddy go for X amount but that doesn't mean a done deal.

But it seems that the writing is on the wall.

The only thing that can be done is for Slade to convince Reddy that the best move he can make is to stay at Blundell Park or, for the club to say we will not release him.

If they do that, they will get nothing at all for him and they will have one very unhappy player in the squad.

Good sense dictates that if an offer is made and it is the right offer the club should accept it.

My bet is that Reddy will talk to Luton Monday morning, if he hasn't already done so, a medical on Tuesday, if not sooner, and sign for them the same day to beat the transfer deadline.

The deadline is Tuesday and that leaves little time to find a player. I would expect that Russell Slade has already spent the money, in as much as he has a player targeted, or waiting on the sidelines.

If, and when, all this happens, the cry will go out that we have now thrown away any chance of promotion.

Not in my book it won't. If one player can determine the success of a football team, there is something wrong with the other 10 in the squad. That does not mean that we will not miss Reddy. Of course we will, but it is up to the manager to ensure his absence does not affect our success.

Somehow I think Russell Slade can do that. (Howls of derision from the background) Any manager who can take their team to the top of this league is no mug, despite the recent bad results.

Keep the faith lads, and farewell Michael Reddy.
