Radio Humberside Back At BP

By: GTFC
Date: 10/11/2006

GRIMSBY Town FC and the BBC have concluded a broadcast agreement that will mean commentary on the club's matches being broadcast on BBC Radio Humberside until the end of this season.

The deal, which was agreed this week, will mean that the station will concentrate on the club's away games as well as some key home matches.

Grimsby Town commentary will return to BBC Radio Humberside tomorrow afternoon on the station's medium wave and DAB frequencies for the Mariners' FA Cup first round match at League One side Northampton Town.Commentator John Tondeur will follow the club's progress under new manager Alan Buckley, as they seek to draw clear of the League Two relegation zone.In addition, the station will also return to providing live commentary on all games for Grimsby Town's popular website "Mariners World".

Grimsby Town's Chairman, John Fenty, said: "The clubs key concerns have been addressed and in particular agreement has been reached, that should home games be live broadcast then the club will receive adequate compensation for the loss of income on home attendances. We are delighted that the fans can hear most if not all of the away commentaries for the rest of the season".

BBC Radio Humberside's Managing Editor Derek McGill said: "The station is delighted to be able to return to broadcasting a substantial number of Grimsby Town commentaries, in a deal which represents value for money for our listeners, and at a time when the club is embarking on an exciting period over the remainder of the season".

Tomorrow's commentary will be broadcast on BBC Radio Humberside's sports programme Saturday Sport from 1.30pm, on 1485khz medium wave and on the station's DAB Digital Radio channel.
