Beat the Bookies: Week 23

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 28/12/2006

MACCLESFIELD once more came up with the goods to see Beat the Bookies move further into profit for the season! Sadly two second half Rochdale goals meant it wasn't to be a Xmas Special double.

Grimsby take on Stockport at Edgeley Park on the back of two away defeats from the Mariners, albeit at two of the better clubs in the division: Lincoln and Hartlepool. It will be an interesting test of Grimsby's realistic prospects of ending in the top 10 this season, against a side in a similar position to the Mariners, and who are likewise strong at home. Stockport are 11/10 favourites, but Town at 11/4 with Ladbrokes is a reasonable price.

But this week we once more turn again to the strange world of League Two, where the teams are the bottom are often near the top of the recent form guide.

Firstly Macclesfield simply must be backed to beat whoever they are playing! This week they are away at lowly Torquay, and are 6/4 to triumph. Torquay passed the ball around well against Town, but looked leaky at the back and lightweight up front, not a combination that augurs well.

Secondly, Boston have found a new lease of life recently and on Saturday they are paired with Rochdale, who are having a torrid time (coming back from 2-0 down last week notwithstanding). Boston have only lost 1 of the last 6; Rochdale have lost 4 of the last 6. Yet Boston are 15/8 to win at Spotland.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Macclesfield to beat Torquay (6/4).
  • 2. Boston to beat Rochdale (15/8).
