Ashton was a youth product of Leicester City. He was given a trial by the club midway through the 2004/2005 season, and a few weeks later he signed for the rest of the season, earning his first professional contract.
He was rewarded with an extension to his contract in the summer, and went on to play in one first team game in the 05/06 season, a LDV Vans Trophy game against Morecambe, in which he scored.
Paul was released a few months into the following season.
