Rob Jones

Lanky centre back who arrived on a free transfer from Stockport County in July 2004. Jones was a former secondary school PE teacher while playing part-time for non-league side Gateshead.

Jones also spent time on-loan at Macclesfield Town while on the books at Stockport. His start to his Town career was a little shaky, and he played second fiddle to Ramsden, Whittle and Forbes, and was often a bench-warmer along with the illustrious Glen Downey.

A transformation took place over the summer period after a year at Grimsby, and he was given a year's contract extension and rewarded the club and its fans by becoming an absolute man mountain at the back.

He was boosted into the first team, and became the pinnacle of the squad that season, in which he eventually won Player Of The Season for his breathtaking performances at the back.

Only a year after having his Town career in doubt, due to being an under achiever, Grimsby were battling clubs away to try and keep hold of the man who headed the team. However a £250,000 offer from Scottish Premier League club Hibernian was accepted, and Jones signed a 2-year-deal at Easter Road.

Rob has continued his top class performances, captaining Hibs to cup glory in his first season, and scoring in the final as well.
