Town To Sign New 'Keeper

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 06/06/2007

ALAN Buckley has moved to bring in his third new signing by snaring ex Rotherham goalkeeper Gary Montgomery on a one year deal and will sign him over the next day or so.

This means that Town will have a second experienced 'keeper on the books which has been a shortcoming over previous seasons.

Buckley told Mariners Net: "I have agreed terms with Gary and we are just waiting for him to put pen to paper and complete a one-year deal."

"It's all sorted - it is just a matter of paperwork now and I am pleased to get him.

"As a youngster he was highly thought of and at 24 he still has a lot to offer."

"He has experience despite still being young for a keeper and I'm sure he will be a great asset to us."

"Gary knows my plans too and he is very enthusiastic. I think he feels he still has a lot to prove to make a name for himself and he is very hungry to succeed."

He signed for Rotherham in the summer of 2003 as a young understudy for Michael Pollitt. In his career, he has also played at Coventry City and Kidderminster Harriers.
