Carlisle v Grimsby Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 09/11/2007

PAUL Bolland and Nick Fenton are set to return for the Mariners from their respective injuries and suspensions when Town make the difficult trip to League One leaders Carlisle on Saturday. However Isaiah Rankin is still injured and Logan has returned to Man City.

That means Buckley will probably stick with 4-5-1 but with Bolland in central midfield and play Ryan Bennett out of position at right back. Martin Butler will continue as Town's lone striker, with Taylor and Jarman having to settle for a place on the bench.

Midfielder Paul Thirwell and 'keeper Adam Bradwell are both ruled out for the Cumbrians through injury and Darren Campion is suspended for the FA Cup First Round clash. On loan Preston midfielder Joe Anyinsah is also cup-tied. Leading United scorer is striker Danny Graham (no. 9), who has already netted nine teams this season.

Town historically have an excellent record over Carlisle, having won 20 of the 38 encounters. United however did the double over Grimsby in Russell Slade's final season, as the Cumbrians went on to get promoted at Town's expense. Town were also beaten at Brunton Park in the LDV Trophy when Carlisle were a Conference club in the 2004-2005 season. The two teams have only met once in the FA Cup when Grimsby won 6-2 almost 100 years ago in 1908.

The Mariners would be happy with a point which would bring Carlisle back to Blundell Park for a replay.
