The Next Hurdle

FOLLOWING yesterday's 'all clear' from North East Lincolnshire Council it has been confirmed that the next big hurdle for the club’s plan to relocate to Great Coates is to find retail funds which will actually pay for the bleeder!
Mariners chairman John Fenty has confirmed that prospective retail partners for the Great Coates relocation will pay for the land (which the Mariners don't currently own), the actual infrastructure itself, and the 106 agreement. In return they will get an out of town superstore in a prime location.
Without retailers the stadium cannot go ahead as they provide the funding gap. It is thought that the Mariners have another six million to raise, through retail, to allow the proposal to go ahead.
The club have yet again reminded fans of the long road ahead and that finding suitable retail partners is now the only significant hurdle that stands in front of GTFC moving from Blundell Park.
Delays have meant that August 2010 is the likely date when Town would begin playing at the Conoco Stadium, which means we have to survive for another 2.5 seasons on the money that Blundell Park alone can generate, plus the generosity of the board.
